Description
Reviving an old Newfoundland tradition that began in the early 1800's. Mummering, also known as Jannying, would take place in many communities in the province during Christmas season when residents would disguise themselves and visit their friends and neighbors singing, dancing and of course drinking. Laws have been passed prohibiting the practice but still today, in some smaller outport communities, mummers can be found, and heard, over-indulging in Christmas spirits.
